Evidence-based vaccinology: the work of the Cochrane Vaccines Field.

چکیده
The volume of vaccine analytical literature is notable (the journal Vaccine alone having published 231 trials on diVerent vaccines between 1983 and 1994 ). However, to date little attention has been paid to summarising and evaluating its significance in the assessment of vaccine quality (defined as eYcacy, eVectiveness, eYciency, safety, and acceptability). Quality assessment is important as vaccines are a widely used preventive technology, vaccination programmes are mostly publicly funded, and decisions to immunise whole populations must be made on the best available evidence, especially if such practice is regulated by law. Additionally the current array of vaccines is likely to be augmented considerably in scope and variety by new vaccines imposing a resource burden on society. Such a burden, set against the backdrop of increased health care costs, will necessitate discrimination of funding of preventive programmes. Discrimination should be partly based on the best available evidence of vaccine eVectiveness and safety, of the social burden of the target disease and of the ability of the vaccine to prevent that burden developing. The Cochrane Vaccines Field (CVF) was founded to facilitate the gathering of evidence on vaccines and their eVects (such as ability to prevent the target disease, short and long term

Control of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza by Evidence-Based Vaccinology: Past Progress, Future Prospect
Background and Objectives: Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) viruses are particularly important due to huge economic consequences and public health concerns. During recent years, because of the severity of epidemics and failure in the control and eradication of HPAI, vaccination has been introduced into the National Prevention and Control Program of some countries, including Iran. This a...
متن کاملRelation between experimental and non-experimental study designs. HB vaccines: a case study.
STUDY OBJECTIVE To examine the relation between experimental and non-experimental study design in vaccinology. DESIGN Assessment of each study design's capability of testing four aspects of vaccine performance, namely immunogenicity (the capacity to stimulate the immune system), duration of immunity conferred, incidence and seriousness of side effects, and number of infections prevented by va...
متن کاملA protocol and detailed methodological study on immunogenicity of various experimental vaccines.
This study explores the methodology of various experimental vaccines and their immunogenicity outcome in detail. The idea is to give to the reader a picture of the research methodology behind vaccine development that was used in this research. The novelty of this study bases on the demonstration of the cause and effect of antibodies produced against bacterial and viral proteins (immunogens) as ...

Immunization is undoubtedly one of the most effective and most cost-effective health interventions. Vaccines continue to revolutionize our ability to prevent diseases and improve health. With all the technological advances, we are able to extend the benefits of vaccines to more people and to provide better protection from life-threatening infectious diseases. Nevertheless, thanks to the unceasi...
